So James Maynard, a journalist, takes on what looks like a super boring assignment—just a story about some fancy city and its new road bridge. But instead of a simple article, he stumbles into something way darker. Beneath all the traditions and pride, he discovers a creepy side to the city’s customs and realizes that Venetian pride hides something truly rotten at its core. Turns out, not even Mussolini himself could ever fully kill off the Carnival. Carnival is a folk horror point-and-click game with this crazy, eerie vibe. It’s set during a time when Europe’s in total chaos, with the old world and the future crashing into each other. On top of that, James has narcolepsy, so he is constantly struggling with messed-up memories and distorted reality. You’re never totally sure if what he sees is real or just his head playing tricks on him.
The game pulls you in with moody pixel art visuals that feel straight out of old-school horror Joint with detailed locations based on Venice himself. As you explore, you will meet all kinds of NPCs and build relationships that actually matter, since your choices shape how the story plays out and which of the multiple endings you get. It’s made by Beyond Booleans, the same devs behind Abscission, which won three AGS awards—so yeah, you know this one’s gonna be just as haunting and unforgettable.
