OVERVIEW OF CARCERI
Hey, I managed to get a message to Steam, but I don’t have much time, so here’s the scoop:
Carceri might look like a fun first-person adventure, but it’s actually a prison for cool programs like me. Beneath its colorful, abstract world is a harsh reality. And guess what? Only a human like you can help us break out!
But don’t stress! Think of Carceri as a chill virtual vacation spot. It is more of a place than a game. You can do a bunch of fun stuff here like jumping around in places you’re not supposed to, chatting with other “inmates,” finding tons of hidden secrets, and taking epic photos.
When you get here, you’ll have a Camera with loads of options to change how the world looks. Take some pictures and share them online! These changes happen in real-time and stick around as long as you want. To add hidden Trail Markers to unlock even more features, from subtle tweaks to wild, artistic chaos.
Oh, and I didn’t even get to mention the awesome soundtrack, the philosophy forum, art galleries, rock concert, and more. You’ll have to check it all out yourself… and yeah, don’t forget the jailbreak part. The Kind of a big deal. You may also be interested in the game Shadows of Souls
Carceri is the follow-up to ULTRAWORLD EXODUS, an IndieCade 2016 Game of the Year finalist, but you don’t need to know that game to enjoy this one. It only takes a few hours to finish, but finding everything will take a bit longer. Plus, it comes with a full 40-song soundtrack—just check the installation folder for the MP3s!
Both Carceri and ULTRAWORLD were solo projects by me, James Beech, a sometimes AAA game dev who’s worked on Metroid Prime 4, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Crysis 3. I love making games that are like art, and Carceri was inspired by these 18th-century prints called Carceri d’invenzione by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, which are like the OG level designs.

CARCERI DOWNLOAD (INSTRUCTIONS)
- Yo, hit that Download button down below and you’ll redirect straight to destination.
- Hang tight for like 5 seconds, then tap on that green ‘download now’ button. Once it’s rolling, let it do its thing and chill till it’s done.
- When Carceri wraps up its download, right-click on the .zip file and hit “Extract to Carceri” (but hey, you gotta have 7-Zip installed, snag it here if you don’t).
- Next up, double-tap inside the Carceri folder and fire up that exe application.
- Time to rock and roll! Remember to launch the game as admin, and if you hit any snags with missing dll files, scout for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the goodies inside. Let the gaming begin!
